Meet Penny

I have always loved flowers - who doesn't?  Some of my earliest memories are flower laden and I only have to catch the scent of a Freesia to be instantly transported to my childhood! As an adult, whenever I passed a florist shop, I always thought what a lovely job it could be.

A chance conversation with a friend eventually led to a change of career, and the creation of The Scented Meadow.  I wish I had done it years earlier. A day spent with flowers in my hands is a good day!

Creating joyful florals for those special moments in life brings me so much pleasure. Whether it's adding a touch of magic to a wedding or providing something beautiful to say those last goodbyes, my flowers provide the perfect way to enhance a special occasion or express love for someone dear.

Fragrance can evoke a series of images in your mind, so vivid that you can be instantly transported to a different time and place.

The scent of the flowers on your wedding day will be forever attached to the emotions you feel on that day and that's why I try to include something not only beautiful to look at but wonderful to smell as well.

My flowers will hopefully linger long in your memories, not only in images and photos but also as a scented reminder to take you back to your special day.

Sustainability

Sustainability is an increasingly important issue in floristry and many flower growers around the world are working hard to produce blooms that are as sustainable as possible. I believe that we should all take some responsibility for the impact that having year-round beautiful flowers has on this planet. To ensure your wedding florals are as kind as they are beautiful, I commit to the following:

  • Sustainable Methods: I never use floral foam that contains harmful microplastics. Instead, I use reusable vessels, chicken wire and moss.

  • Seasonality First: To reduce 'flower miles' I will use British-grown flowers, wherever possible and appropriate to your event, but if your heart is set on something that isn't in season here, I'll be upfront about where it comes from.

  • Conscious Sourcing: From compostable packaging to avoiding single-use plastics, I aim for the beauty I create to leave as light a footprint as possible.

  • After the day: Where possible, your flowers are given a second life, either enjoyed by you and your guests, passed on to others or composted.
